The following photos show a chinchilla afterbirth in great detail.

The umbilical cord can easily be seen, as well as the major blood vessels that have carried nutrients and oxygen to the developing foetus.

The afterbirth pictured was one of two that were expelled (one per kit). 

The female was allowed to eat one (which is natural for her to do so) but the other placenta was removed for study.
